Marina Hotel overlooks the main street of Lacco Ameno, one of the
most picturesque spots of the Isle of Ischia. The village,which
lies along the coastline at the bottom of Mount Epomeo, is famous
fot its characteristic rock, called "il Fungo" (the Mushroom),
situated not far from the beach.
The isle has a very long history. The first Greek settlement in
the West, dating back to the eighth century B.C was located on Mount
Vico (acropolis) and in S.Motano Valley (necropolis). Settlers from
Chalcidian an Eretria, which are regions of the Greek Isle of Euboea,
founded a town called Pithekoussai in the area where Lacco Ameno
in now.
Tourist can visit the Pithecuase Archaeological Museum, located
in the eighteenth century Villa Arbusto. One of the most interesting
attractions of this Museum is the so called "Nestore's Cup".
The excavations of S.Restituta and the annexed Museum are also worth
a visit.
